Faces Behind the Interviews

Dolores Slowinski

Life-long resident of Detroit's west side, currently resides in Aviation Subdivision.  She is an established artist, performing her craft sometimes 60 hours a week at the house next to her residence, which she owns as a studio. 

Mary and Adam Cantu

Both are life-long Detroit residents of Southwest Detroit (although Adam lived in Corktown during adolescence).  Mary works at Henry Ford Hospital in New Center and Adam is disabled, but worked construction in and around the city.

Shirley  Woodson

Life-long resident of Detroit's west side, currently lives in Aviation Subdivision.  The former supervisor of art education for Detroit Public Schools, she now helps run the Michigan chapter of the National Conferance of Artists-- a non-profit that supports local African American visual arts culture.

Dennis Kuo

Grew up in Southern California and after completing his undergrad at UCLA, he moved to Detroit to enroll in Medical School at Wayne State.  Residing on campus in Midtown for the last five years, he is currently doing residency at Oakwood Hospital.

Mark Gibson

Student at Wayne State completing a bachelor's degree in English this summer. Originially from Metro Detroit, he has lived in the city for four years.  He currently resides in North Corktown. 

Casey Sullivan and Luke Resetar 

Casey is a student at Oakland Community College that moved to Midtown six months ago.  Luke, his roommate, is a student at Wayne State who has lived in the Midtown/Cass Corridor area for a year and a half.  Both are originally from suburban Detroit.
