An Expoloration of Myths on the City of Detroit

Each of the buttons below contain a different myth associated with the city of Detroit.  With the city becoming a hotter topic everyday, my goal was to find out what a handful of  both life-long and recent Detroiters had to say  about their experiences in the city, and how they compare to the myths.  As most myths do, these statements all hold some elements of truth.  Therefore, the idea is not to replace these "myths" with "truth", in fact there is no absoulte "truth.  No single perspective can can capture an accurate depiction of the 700,000 people that live in a city.  A logical way to understand a city is to talk to a diverse sample of individuals who inhabit it. Through interviews, my goal is to provide a variety of viewpoints from the old-timers and the new-comers for a richer understanding of the selected myths. Rather than a single definitive picture, I intend to present an ever-increasing number of filters.  The first color image was developed when one man overlaid three black and white images through three different filters.  By providing different filters to these four myths surrounding Detroit, perhaps a clearer picture of the city will emerge.
